This project explores the history of women’s golf from 1867 to the present.
The central argument is simple: women were not passive participants in the development of the game. Long before formal institutions recognised their role, women created clubs, organised competitions, built networks, and sustained communities that made it possible for generations of women to play golf.
The book traces how these participation systems developed over time and how they shaped the experience of the game.
The website accompanying the book also provides a research archive, including appendices, primary sources, and documentation of the historical evidence used in the work.
Readers may follow the narrative through the chapters or explore the evidence and documents alongside the story.
